To the Editor:

We understand that people in our community may be wondering how changes in leadership at the college may affect how we do business. On behalf of the Clark College Board of Trustees, I want to assure the Vancouver Business Journal and its readers that our commitment to the business community is unchanged. Workforce development is one of our six mission imperatives and our initiatives in that area will continue to grow.

At the 2006 Governor’s Economic & Workforce Development Conference, we were gratified to hear both Gov. Christine Gregoire and Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard acknowledge and praise our efforts in supporting workforce development in Southwest Washington.

Today, Clark offers more than 100 certificate and degree options for individuals seeking career advancement and training that provides family wage jobs. In June 2006, Clark College graduated more than 900 students from our professional-technical programs and 77 percent were employed within six months. In 2006, a new medical radiography training program was launched to respond to regional demand.

I want to thank the Vancouver Business Journal for its support of the college’s efforts on behalf of workforce development. We take pride in our efforts to support local business through corporate education and workforce development.

Rhona Sen Hoss, Chairwoman
Clark College Board of Trustees
