Let’s start now

Readers: Tell us what the new VBJ online could do for your business

The responsibility of the Vancouver Business Journal as a communications company in Southwest Washington is to touch our readers, clients, investors and community members in as many ways as possible. We do this primarily through our biweekly newspaper, our five annual publications and our annual celebrations of various sectors of the business community at events like Top Projects and the Business Growth Awards. You will also see our staff members at CREDC luncheons, Business after Hours parties, public meetings and charity gatherings.

For the past decade one of the most important ways for a company to communicate with its stakeholders is electronically – through video, e-mail, the company’s Web site and so forth. More and more, an expectation of customer interaction is met through blogs and searchable databases, and through providing as much useful information as possible, even if it’s about a company’s competitor or seemingly unrelated industry. The more information I can provide, the more my stakeholders are likely to value their interactions with my company.

As you can guess, this is especially apt in the newspaper business.

The Vancouver Business Journal is preparing to revamp its Web site, and we would like to gather as much feedback from our readers, clients and prospective clients as we can.

Take a moment and answer yes or no to the following statements:

I would like to get breaking news from the Vancouver Business Journal via e-email. Once a week? Twice a week? Every day?

I would be likely to comment online on stories.

I would be likely to interact with other business owners online.

I would use links to local business resources, such as the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and SCORE.

I would like to see links to other news sources on the VBJ Web site.

I would pay to advertise online.

I would use a free Web-based classified advertising service to sell or buy local business items and property.

I would be likely to buy products like the VBJ Book of Lists or subscriptions online.

I would be willing to register to receive full access to ten years of archives.

E-mail me at jswanson@vbjusa.com to receive a copy of this survey to fill out and add comments, or just send your thoughts on these or other ideas directly to me. The new VBJ online will be as much you as it is us. So let’s start the dialog now.
