Top Projects get top honors

The location – and the weather – couldn't have been better for VBJ's 6th Annual Top Project awards. Over 250 attendees gathered last Thursday under clear blue skies and seasonable temperatures to celebrate the region's biggest construction projects, with the second-ranked Al Angelo Building serving as the backdrop.

Among those accepting awards on behalf of the top five projects was Craig Angelo of the Al Angelo Co., Annette Cleveland from fifth-ranked Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital, as well as representatives from Hoffman Construction Co., placing fourth for the Firstenburg Tower Expansion at Southwest Washington Medical Center.

Though Cascade Bridge LLC took top honors for its massive West 39th Street Bridge project, the star of last week's event was the nearly-completed Angelo Building, standing at the former site of a Denny's Restaurant at 400 Mill Plain Center. "We thought there should be something other than a Denny's here," said Albert Angelo III. "It's a beautiful entrance to downtown."

The first of two buildings planned for the site, the five-story property is set to house Clark County's first Columbia Bank branch, a naturopathic medical office, as well as the offices of Al Angelo Co., currently located across Mill Plain Boulevard.
