The new school will cover approximately 154,000 square feet. Woodland-based PDM Steel is among the local contractors taking part in the project, providing steel for the building. Skanska plans to have it completed for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

“This is an exciting project because many community partners are involved, imagining what a new, modern high school can be for these students,” said Skanska Vice President Tim Baugus. “We are excited with them because the students and faculty will have a more modern learning environment; expanded teaching space and more classrooms; new science labs, increased safety and parking; and updated athletic fields and facilities.”

While the Woodland project represents Cowlitz County’s first new high school in decades, it’s Skanska’s third education-related project to break ground locally since 2011.

The company completed construction of the Henrietta Lacks Health and Bioscience High School last summer, and is in the process of completing construction on the rebuild of Crestline Elementary School, after it was destroyed by fire in February 2013. Both of those schools are located in Vancouver.
