REDpoint points the way

The PICC Sleeve’s unique design, which uses no adhesives, no latex and no PVCs, has small wheels that stabilize the infusion line when it is attached to the PICC. When not attached to a line, the Sleeve protects the PICC and dressing. REDpoint is currently marketing a similar device for IVs called the Stedline® IV Sleeve.

“The PICC Sleeve wasn’t the next product we were going to develop,” said Vance, “but at every conference we attended we heard two things: ‘I love the IV Sleeve – when can we get the PICC Sleeve?’ and ‘Why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?’”

REDpoint International was founded in 2008, and the Stedline IV Sleeve has been on the market since last November. The company also sells the Versatilt, a durable medical device that allows caregivers to position wheelchair patients for treatment, eliminating chair transfers that can endanger both patient and caregiver safety. The Stedline IV Sleeve and the Versatilt have won multiple awards for innovation and safety.

Vance said that the company expects infusion centers, in-home infusion, care centers for the elderly and military and emergency medical services to be some of the fastest-growing market segments for Stedline products.

“Most wounded soldiers and EMS patients are transported with taped IVs, which are easily dislodged,” said Vance.

In addition, Medicare has introduced patient satisfaction scores as a component in reimbursement to providers. Therefore patient comfort has become a focal point of the healthcare industry. Vance said that REDpoint believes its adhesive-free approach creates a competitive advantage.

“We just received a nice-sized order from the Air Force [for the IV Sleeve],” said Vance.

Building on the successful launch of the Stedline IV Sleeve and Versatilt, and soon the PICC Sleeve, REDpoint is poised for significant growth. The Stedline product line consists of at least 11 products. The next in line for development, the Stedline Central Line Vest, recently was submitted to the FDA for clearance. REDpoint also has a pediatric product line in the concept development stage and recently took an entire new product line to the patent office.

The company moved into a 6,000-square-foot building on Chkalov Drive a year ago, and employs six full-time employees and one part-time employee.

In addition to actively developing new products, the company is also currently working on gaining
new investments to fund more studie
