Princeton Athletic Club closes its doors

A regular destination for downtown Vancouver office workers and longtime residents alike, Princeton Athletic Club closed its doors for the last time Friday.

In a letter, club owner David Lawson notified members of the termination of their membership agreements effective 8 p.m. Friday. "We are very grateful for your loyalty and wish we were able to continue operation of the facility," Lawson wrote. "Unfortunately economic circumstances make the continued operation of PAC impossible."

The fitness center, located on the ground floor of the Bank of America Financial Center at 801 Broadway, had been open for 24 years, according to PAC's website.

PAC joins Bally's Fishers Landing location, which closed last summer, as the latest local gym to shutter its doors during a continuing economic slump.

A former sales manager at the Hilton Vancouver, Lawson bought the club from Portland residents Russ and Michele Dyer in October 2007 for an undisclosed amount.
