Local business owner offers reward for sculpture’s head

Wendy Rose sculpture

Wendy Rose sculptureJohn Rudi, owner of Thompson Metal Fab Inc., is offering a reward for the return of the Wendy Rose sculpture’s head. A thief recently removed the head of the ten foot tall metal sculpture located on the Columbia River waterfront trail near Beaches Restaurant.

Installed by the city of Vancouver in 2008, the sculpture was designed and created by a group of local artists known as Women Who Weld to honor those who supported the war through their work at the Kaiser Shipyards during World War Two.

Rudi’s grandmother was a “Wendy Welder” at the shipyards and Thompson Metal Fab is located on old shipyards’ land.

If the head is not recovered, the city of Vancouver said a replacement will cost $4,000.
