Growing up strong

For the fifth year, the Vancouver Business Journal has sought out and celebrated organizations in Southwest Washington that are experiencing growth.

The Southwest Washington Business Growth Awards, which took place April 16 at the Hilton Vancouver, honored 13 businesses and four nonprofits. Winners were announced in each of the six categories.

The winners are determined by volunteers of SCORE’s Vancouver chapter.

This is the first year the VBJ has recognized an outstanding nonprofit with its own category. In years past, nonprofits entered the awards but it was impossible to compare nonprofits with for-profit organizations.

In 2008, at the recommendation of SCORE, Affordable Community Environments was recognized for its accomplishments, but the VBJ this year opted to open the awards to nonprofits because of the growing number in Southwest Washington and the newspaper’s commitment to covering corporate philanthropy.

The Vancouver Business Journal once again congratulates each of the finalists and winners, and wishes all businesses strength and success during these trying times.
