Clark County Rotary Clubs Join “Panhandling for Polio”

More than 100 Clark County Rotary, Rotaract and Interact members will take to the streets this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise funds that will help eradicate polio. All proceeds from “Panhandling for Polio” will be donated to Rotary International’s global polio eradication effort.

Volunteers from the seven Rotary Clubs in Clark County will be wearing red “EndPolioNow” t-shirts, “panhandling” at the following locations: 134th & 20th, 134th & 10th, Highway 99 & 99th St., Vancouver Farmers Market at Esther Short Park, Andresen & Padden Parkway, Padden & 162nd/Ward Rd., Battle Ground Fred Meyer, Battle Ground Village, 3rd & Dallas (near Burgerville) in Camas and “C” & 3rd (near Starbucks) in Washougal.

Since 1985, Rotary International has worked to eliminate polio. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the major partners in this effort, has provided $355 million dollars and challenged Rotary to raise $200 million in matching funds. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children.
