Bridging the Facts

New website aims to offer spin-free truths behind the Columbia River Crossing Project

When it comes to the Columbia River Crossing Project (CRC), separating fact from fiction can be a daunting task. After all, the bridge project is one of the largest and most politicized undertakings our region will ever see. In an effort to clear the air and provide answers to common questions, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce has unveiled a new branch of their website devoted solely to the CRC.

Kelly Parker, president and CEO of the chamber, said the goal is to provide an informative voice.

“It seemed to me there needed to be a voice in the community that wasn’t tied with an elected official, a project sponsor or any of the political factions that have developed,” said Parker. “I think the chamber can be a very strong credible voice that strives to be non-partisan.”

It should be noted that the chamber took a position in support of the CRC last July. Parker said the organization took that stance because for three years in a row, chamber members ranked the bridge project as one of their top three priorities.

“Businesses understand return-on-investment better than anyone,” said Parker. “We’re mindful that this project will put a great imposition on every business and every commuter in this community so we should know more about it. We are just trying to be one more voice and trying to stay as neutral as we can in the rhetoric.”
