BR Mill Plain PicPortland-based Black Rock Coffee Bar has leased a pair of recently vacated retail spaces previously occupied by Tully’s Coffee. The stores are located at the intersection of NE 78th St and Hazel Dell Ave, and at SE 164th Ave and 20th St. (near Big Al’s) in Vancouver.

A spokesperson for Black Rock said the company hopes to re-open both stores early next month, and an invitation has been extended to interview and consider all interested former Tully’s employees for positions at the new coffee bars.

Approximately 20 employees were laid off on December 31 when the two franchise locations closed, owned by Vancouver-based Kirkwood & Kirkwood Inc.

In addition to the former Tully’s locations, Black Rock announced plans to open two drive-thru only stores in Vancouver later this spring, bringing their total Vancouver store count to five (an existing location at SE Mill Plain Blvd & 136th Ave opened in 2009).

The Portland company said it is excited to continue building its relationship with Vancouver area residents in a sit down cafe environment.
