Winery opens in downtown Vancouver

Gougér Cellars Winery will open at 1812 Washington St. in downtown Vancouver Oct. 24. On opening day, owners Gary and Bonnie Gougér will provide wines for sampling and sale, along with hors d'oeurves and chocolate truffle brownies from Portland's Brownies from Heaven. Gougér Cellars Winery makes full-bodied red wine from grapes grown in Washington, Oregon and California.

Young entrepreneurs turn school kitchen into factory

About 20 developmentally-disabled Battle Ground School District students recently turned a classroom kitchen into "The Barkery," helping produce and package dog biscuits to customers across the country – including VIPs like "Miracle on the Hudson" airline Capt. Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger and former President George W. Bush.

Burgerville offers apples this October

The Vancouver-based food chain this month introduced Jonagold apples, locally grown by family-run Pride Packing Co. of Yakima Valley, and Fuji apples from Truitt Bros. in Salem, Ore.
