The Cobalt Designworks piece, a whimsical sculpture, will be unveiled at a public ceremony at 7 p.m. on April 6 during the First Friday Artwalk event.

“We are thrilled to be creating a work of art for Vancouver’s downtown,” said Jennifer Corio, Cobalt Designworks co-owner. “We have sculptures displayed from Canada to Southern California. Yet, to create art for our own community is in many ways more meaningful and exciting. We hope our sculpture adds to downtown’s brightness and makes people stop and smile.”

Funding for downtown’s newest public art project came from the city of Vancouver, donations in memory of the late Carl Dobbs and a grant for LED lights from Columbia Credit Union.

“There are many elements to a downtown that beckons you on to explore and discover what makes it a one-of-a-kind place,” said VDA Executive Director Lee Rafferty. “We believe that quality public art is among the most important of those elements. Our streets are being activated with deliberate, strategic decisions to create a vibrant, connected downtown.”
