Vancouver Urban Forestry Commission seeks Mac Award nominations

The Vancouver Urban Forestry Commission is seeking nominations of individuals, organizations and businesses that have made a positive impact on the city’s urban forest for this year’s Mac Award.

Formally the Gordon and Sylvia MacWilliams Evergreen Award, the commission said the annual Mac Award “recognizes the local tree champions among us.” The award will be bestowed by the Urban Forestry Commission, a seven-member citizen commission appointed by the Vancouver City Council, during the city of Vancouver’s Arbor Day celebration on Wednesday, April 11.

Activities worthy of Mac Award recognition include organizing tree planting projects, educating others about tree benefits or proper tree care, preserving trees during land development, donating time and/or funds to advance Urban Forestry programs, developing creative community forestry partnerships, or any other activity that inspires community stewardship of the urban forest.

Nomination forms are available on the Urban Forestry website at www.cityofvancouver.us/urbanforestry, or by calling (360) 487-8308. Forms must be completed, submitted and received by March 20.
