Vancouver’s Downtown Association reaches donation milestone

Vancouver’s Downtown Association (VDA) recently announced that eleven local businesses are providing critical donations through the Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Program.

Since 2005, the VDA has collected more than $750,000 in donations through the program.

Businesses donating this year include: Miller Nash Attorneys at Law, RSV Construction Services, The Al Angelo Company, Bader Beer and Wine Supply, Columbia Cascade Company, Currie-McLain PS, Davidson and Associates Insurance Agency, Inc., Gift Services, Inc., Johnson Bixby and Associates (KMS Financial Services), The International Air and Hospitality Academy, and Scott Horenstein Law Firm, PLLC.

“These dollars are important to our work and bring great benefit to our city on many levels,” said Linda Glover, president of the VDA. “The program is a wonderful tool for businesses that pay State Business and Occupation taxes to invest in their own hometowns. We are very appreciative.”

Innovative Services NW teams up with First Independent in social media grant program

Innovative Services NW has been selected as a recipient of a matching grant program provided by First Independent that emphasizes the use of social media. The program, called “Ready 2 Give,” will match dollar-for-dollar the first $5,000 raised through Innovative Service NW’s Facebook page.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with First Indy in such a creative way,” said Dawn Johnston, director of development for Innovative Services. “We are eager to build greater awareness of our mission and expand our contact with potential clients and donors so that we can do more for our community.”

Visitor spending rises in Washington State

In 2010, travelers to Washington spent an estimated $15.2 billion in the state, according to the preliminary 2010 Travel Impacts Report, released earlier this month by the Department of Commerce and Washington State Tourism.

The annual study shows visitor spending increased by 7.4 percent over 2009, making 2010 the second best year on record for visitor spending in the evergreen state.

“This report shows that the travel industry in Washington is a significant contributor to our state’s economy as it recovers from the recession of the past two years,” said Rogers Weed, director of the Department of Commerce. “Fueled by visitor spending, tourism supports jobs for Washingtonians, bolsters local economies and small business and contributes tax revenue for state and local governments.”
