Vancouver, Clark County transportation to be the focus of State Transportation Commission meeting

Officials from Vancouver and Clark County will share their transportation challenges and priorities with the Washington State Transportation Commission, which is meeting in Vancouver as part of its statewide public outreach work.

The meeting will take place in the Port of Vancouver Commission Room located at 3103 Northwest Lower River Road, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14. The meeting is open to the public and persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The agenda features a series of short presentations and discussions about current successes and challenges, future plans and needs for transportation, including public transportation and freight, in the Vancouver area. The meeting will also include a panel discussion focused on transportation, jobs and the regional economy. The panel includes Eric Fuller, chair of the Columbia River Economic Development Council; Larry Paulson, executive director of the Port of Vancouver; Rex Burkholder, Metro councilor and vice-chair of the Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation; and Scott Bailey, regional labor economist for the State of Washington. Another panel will discuss regional and local system priorities in a time of shrinking revenues.

The commission will reconvene at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15 at Vancouver City Hall for a briefing on the Columbia River Crossing project and a tour of the project area.
