Sustainability workshops offered at Columbia Springs

Columbia Springs, an environmental education center in Vancouver, will host three free workshops in December on sustainable practices. “Saving Salmon at Home,” on Thursday December 1, will introduce participants to the benefits of managing storm water by integrating permeable pavers, living green roofs, rain barrels and rain gardens into our surroundings. “Natural Savings,” on Thursday Dec. 8, will provide information on current technologies, rebates, and other opportunities to save money on energy bills while reducing our carbon footprints. “Celebrating Sustainability,” taking place on Thursday Dec. 15, will share ideas on ways to celebrate the winter holidays while conserving cash, and being good stewards of our climate and natural resources.

Workshops are free of charge and will take place in the historic hatchery building's Swift Classroom from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Columbia Springs is located at 12208 Southeast Evergreen Highway in Vancouver. Those interested in attending are asked to pre-register on Columbia Springs' website at www.columbiasprings.org.
