Retailers fight back against theft

Nationwide, retailers are taking a hit to the tune of $30 billion due to organized theft, according to the FBI.
In April, 85 percent of retailers said they have seen an increase in organized theft in the last three years, according to the National Retail Federation.Now many stores are trying to fight back by out-organizing the thieves electronically with the Law Enforcement Retail Partnership Network, an interactive database created by the NRF that will be linked to the FBI’s Law Enforcement Online database.

Apparel retailer Charlotte Russe, which has a location at Westfield Vancouver Mall, said LERPnet helped the store recover $15,000 worth of merchandise in the first seven weeks it was connected to the network.
