Public Works spent more than $10 million on local projects in 2010

Clark County Public Works paid private contractors $10.4 million for road, park and storm water projects in 2010, according to a recent review of engineering and construction projects.

Public Works expects more contracting overall this year to build transportation, park and clean water projects.

Some key projects in progress include:

• Salmon Creek Interchange Project: Clark County awarded an $11.6 million contract to Rotschy Inc., a Clark County-based contractor, in January to build its portion of the $133 million project. This joint project with the Washington State Department of Transportation aims to reduce congestion and improve safety north of Vancouver.

• Luke Jensen Sports Park: Clark County awarded a $5.4 million contract to Thompson Bros. Excavating Inc., a Clark County contractor, in February. This project aims to provide facilities for youth sports, as planned when voters approved the Greater Clark Parks District in 2005.

• Covington and Douglas Carter Fisher neighborhood parks: Clark County awarded a $796,000 contract to Thompson Bros. Excavating in March to construct these two neighborhood parks, also part of the Greater Clark Parks District.
