Nonprofit receives Macy’s grant

The National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE), a Vancouver-based nonprofit that helps to inform, educate and prevent violence and exploitation against women and children nationally and internationally, has received a three-year grant from Macy’s Inc. for the organization’s Gift of Lift program.

The program is collaborative effort to collect bras to benefit local, national and international organizations benefitting women and girls. Since 2011, the program has collected and distributed over 10,000 bras to women and girls who have been trafficked, sexually assaulted, homeless, low income, incarcerated and/or are a survivor of domestic violence.

“We’re honored to receive this generous donation from Macy’s,” said Robin Helm, NWCAVE’s Gift of Lift coordinator. “It will allow us to ship bras to nonprofits making a difference that help women and girls like our partners at Free the Girls among many others.”

“Macy’s is the first national business to join our collection site partner list for the Gift of Lift program,” said Michelle Bart, president of National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation (NWCAVE). “We hope this new site will prove successful so Macy’s will allow the program in their other stores.”
