A public hearing on efforts to establish a state essential worker pilot program was held Feb. 11 by the House Committee on Commerce and Labor. If passed, it would require new classification of nonimmigrant visa and allow businesses to draw labor from non-local sources.
House Bill 1694-
The governor signed this bill on Feb. 18, modifying the 2007-2009 operating budget and decreasing general fund and near general fund appropriations by $635 million during the current biennium.
