Papa Murphy's keeps top spot

Vancouver-based Papa Murphy's was named Pizza Today magazine's 2009 Chain of the Year. The company is a four-time recipient, beginning in 2001 and continuing in 2006 and 2008. It is the only chain to receive the honor more than once.

Papa Murphy's is now the fifth-largest pizza chain in the country, operating more than 1,100 locations in 32 states and two provinces in Canada. The award was announced in the magazine's June issue.

Clark County seeks nominations for projects that demonstrate quality development and enhance the community for its annual Community Pride Design Awards.

Projects completed from Jan. 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, are eligible. Nomination forms are available online at www.clark.wa.gov/commdev/prideawardsN.html or by contacting Désirée de Monyé at 360-397-2375 ext. 4165. They must be received by July 31.

WSUV students promote business climate

To promote Clark County as a good place to do business or make a career, Washington State University Vancouver Digital Technology and Culture students this month launched the website https://livinginswwashington.net. The project was commissioned by Ed Lynch to target prospective employers and people contemplating a career-based relocation.

Nearly 1 in 5 Washingtonians are uninsured

The number of uninsured in Washington is up nearly 21 percent – from 726,000 to a record 876,000, according to Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler.

This year, nearly one in five people between 19 and 64 will be without health insurance, including 95,000 workers who lost insurance when they lost their jobs, their 15,000 dependents and the 40,000 people scheduled to be cut from the state's Basic Health plan this year.
