Port of Camas-Washougal extends profitability streak

Despite a tough 2009, operative revenues at the Port of Camas-Washougal managed to exceed expenses for a fifth straight year, according to the agency's 2010 Community Report.

Released last week, the report highlighted the Port's positive net income of $895,119, including revenue from three operating areas – the marina, airport and industrial park.

"We hold ourselves accountable to the public and this document is intended to inform and educate citizens about each of the operational areas in the port district and our ongoing efforts that demonstrate fiscal responsibility," said Port of Camas-Washougal executive director David Ripp.

County budget chief cautiously reports gradual "turn for the better"

For the first time in two years, the financial position of Clark County is starting to improve, according to county Budget Director Jim Dickman.

Dickman recently presented the Board of County Commissioners with a routine spring supplemental budget proposal. A public hearing is set for April 27 at 10 a.m. to consider the proposal. The hearing will take place at the Public Service Center in Vancouver during the Board's regular business meeting.

"We are not proposing major changes to the budget approved by the Board in December," Dickman said. "Our revenues and expenses are tracking very close to our most recent forecasts and the budget now in effect. This is a turn for the better."

SBA Recovery Lending Extended Through May

President Barack Obama signed legislation last week providing $80 million in additional funding to continue important enhancements in the U.S. Small Business Administration's two key small business loan programs. The enhancements, first made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, include a higher guarantee on some SBA-backed loans and small business fee relief.

The SBA estimates the $80 million will support about $2.8 billion in small business lending under the 7(a) and 504 programs.

Under the new extension SBA may continue to reduce loan fees in its 7(a) and 504 programs and to provide higher guarantee levels on 7(a) loans through May 2010, or until the funds provided under the bill are exhausted.
