FastSigns donates banners for schools

Barry Leung and Teresa Kung, owners of the sign and graphic business FastSigns, recently donated 31 banners to Evergreen Public Schools in Vancouver to help them deliver exciting news in an impactful way.

"We are impressed to see that the Evergreen Public Schools is taking a lead role in energy savings," Leung said. "The fact that it is one of the only two K-12 school districts in the nation to be recognized by the EPA as an Energy Star Partner of the Year speaks volumes."

The banners, one for each school, were donated to both inform the community about the school district's achievement and to impart to students the importance of doing his or her part for the environment.

"This is a great opportunity to teach students the impact their school district is having on energy conservation while letting the parents know that the schools are saving their tax dollars," Kung said.

Sales tax exemption for B.C. residents set to begin July 1

The Washington state Dept. of Revenue has posted instructions on its website for retailers who may be selling goods tax-free to British Columbia residents.

British Columbia residents will soon become eligible for the tax break because the province is shifting from a Provincial Sales Tax to a value-added tax.

Residents of the Canadian province of Ontario will also be eligible for the sales tax exemption on July 1.

A 1965 Washington law allows Washington merchants to sell products exempt from sales tax to residents of states and provinces that have either no sales tax or a sales tax of less than 3 percent.

Info on the new exemptions is available at www.dor.wa.gov/nonresidents.
