Local businesses to support summer park program

A summer playground program at Evergreen Park (located at Fourth Plain and Rossiter Avenue in Vancouver) for elementary-age youth has received funding commitments from Comcast and Veolia Water to match a $6,000 United Way of the Columbia-Willamette challenge grant obtained by Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt. In addition, Comcast has committed to $3,000 per year for 2012 and 2013.

The Evergreen Park Summer Playground Program began in 2008 as part of an effort to revitalize the Fourth Plain Corridor. According to the city, the program’s existence has been uncertain from year to year because it costs about $12,000 per summer to run, and is not funded by the city’s general fund.
