The Fort Vancouver National Trust has announced that Saturday’s Dancing with the Local Stars raised $115,000. The proceeds will support the Trust’s programs at the Fort Vancouver National Site.

The dance competition held last weekend at Pearson Air Museum was attended by nearly 400 people. Based on the program “Dancing with the Stars,” eight local “stars” were partnered with Arthur Murray Dance Studio instructors and were taught dance routines during a series of lessons. The community was encouraged to vote for their favorite dancer with their dollars both online and at the event. The dancer who raised the most money was declared the winner.

This year’s winner was Ed Barnes, a retired IBEW Local 48 executive and civic leader. Barnes performed a Foxtrot with his dance partner Kaylyn Haynes, an Arthur Murray dance instructor.

Each of the celebrity dancers was awarded a trophy for categories voted on by the audience. The celebrity dancers and their awards are:

  • Ed Barnes, IBEW Local 48, for best entrance
  • Victoria Bradford, Comfort Interiors Inc., for best overall dance performance
  • Ryan Hart, district director for Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, for most creative performance
  • Steve Horenstein, Horenstein Law Group, for fan favorite
  • Aaron Kraft, Veolia Water, for most outrageous
  • Julie Kuni, community volunteer, for best natural talent
  • Avaly Mobbs, Building Industry Association, for best costume

Said Fort Vancouver National Trust President and CEO Elson Strahan, “Without the hard work of these seven community stars this event would not be possible. We are immensely grateful for their dedication and support.”
