City of Vancouver awarded $750,000 grant for new waterfront trail

The city of Vancouver was recently awarded a $750,000 Federal Highway Administration grant that will be used to extend Vancouver’s Renaissance Trail for approximately one-half mile along the downtown waterfront.

The trail is part of the first phase of construction on a new, eight-acre Waterfront Park. The park and trail are now in the design and permitting phase which is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Earlier this year, the city received $1 million in state capital funds to assist with the construction of the Waterfront Park. The city plans to develop it in phases as funds are available from park impact fees, grants and donations.

Waterfront Park is part of a planned 32-acre private mixed-use investment project that is expected to create thousands of new jobs. The development is a coordinated effort between the state of Washington, the city of Vancouver, Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Department and Columbia Waterfront LLC.
