Cinetopia builds success with technology; eyes new Texas location

Showing no signs of slowing down, Cinetopia is preparing to build its third theater located outside of the Pacific Northwest. Already planning to bring the Cinetopia brand to Kansas and California, owner Rudyard Coltman said the company now hopes to build a theater in Lewisville, Texas, near Dallas.

In addition to the multi-state expansion, Cinetopia continues to invest in its local roots. Coltman said the theater’s new Westfield Vancouver Mall location is on track for a late winter/early spring completion. The company also recently opened Cinetopia Progress Ridge in Beaverton.

Coltman, during a Dolby Laboratories demonstration on the latest audio and visual technology at Cinetopia’s original location on Southeast 7th Street in Vancouver, said his theater’s association with a state-of-the-art experience has been key to the company’s growth.

“Technology is a really big part of what we do,” said Coltman, adding that it sets them apart from competing theaters.

Illustrating his point, Coltman said Cinetopia is the only theater in the Portland-Vancouver area that’s equipped with 7.1 surround sound (most theaters have 5.1, which is essentially one less channel of sound).

“We’re always trying to have that highest level of technology whether it is sound or picture,” he said.
