CHRC now offering free tax preparation assistance

Vancouver’s Community Housing Resource Center (CHRC) is now providing free tax preparation assistance for workers who may be eligible for federal tax dollar programs. This is the fourth year the nonprofit agency has offered the service.

At the CHRC tax site, IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers work one-on-one with families and individuals to help file their tax returns and ensure that they receive the tax credits for which they qualify, the organization said. In addition, they can direct their customers to no or low-fee bank accounts, credit repair services or financial education classes.

“We are not trying to compete with paid tax preparers,” explained Charlene Dahlen, CHRC deputy director. “Those with more complicated returns, higher earnings, or have a bankruptcy may be better served by their accountant or a paid tax preparer. We’re just trying to reach out to many of our low and fixed income Clark County residents to help them and their families maximize their tax credits and use them to make ends meet or save for the future.”

The Community Housing Resource Center is located at 103 E. 29th Street, in Vancouver. For more information on the free tax service call 360.690.4496 x 105.
