Steve Hurt

Thayer comes to MSHI with more than 20 years of nonprofit management and development experience. He previously served the Muscular Dystrophy Association, United Way and American Red Cross.

Yurkewycz has worked for MSHI since 2011, serving in many capacities including science programs director and interim executive director. Prior to working at the Mount St. Helens Institute, he was a biologist on the mountain and earned his master’s degree from Washington State University Vancouver.

“I am excited to announce the two leaders that we feel will help grow and expand MSHI, while continuing to deliver the quality programs you are already familiar with,” said Tom Wolverton, MSHI Board President. “The Board of Directors is very excited about the skills, passion and experience that both leaders bring to the Institute.”

Gibbs & Olson, a civil engineering and land surveying firm based in Longview, recently announced the addition of Steve Hurt.

Hurt has more than 16 years of surveying experience for public works projects. His background includes working for the city of Vancouver and the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Hurt specializes in boundary, topographic and construction surveys utilizing conventional and GPS/RTK equipment.

SUNNY GOLDEN & RYAN MACAULEY

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce has welcomed two new volunteer “Red Coat” Ambassadors to the organization: Sunny Golden and Ryan Macauley.

Golden is the senior catering manager at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. She has ten years of experience in the hospitality industry and has been involved with a number of community organizations including Habitat for Humanity.

Macauley is a commercial-industrial planned maintenance specialist in sales for ENTEK Corporation. He is responsible for growing the company’s planned maintenance program in Southwest Washington and Oregon for commercial and industrial businesses. He was recently featured in the September/October edition of the “Vancouver VISION Magazine” for his input on employee productivity.

Chamber Ambassadors can be seen at business-focused events throughout the year including ribbon cutting celebrations, open houses and Business After Hours events.

HAROLD RAINS & MARCY JORDAN-CARLSON

Lifeline Connections, a Vancouver-based nonprofit focusing on substance abuse and mental health treatment, has selected Harold Rains as the recipient of its 2014 Lifeline Connections John Cox Award of Excellence. Additionally, the organization selected Marcy Jordan-Carlson as the recipient of the 2014 Community Partner Award.

The John Cox Award of Excellence is given to individuals who are vocal supporters of chemical dependency and mental health treatment. Rains, a long-time advocate for Lifeline’s programs, is the finance and contract manager for the Clark County Department of Community Services. His background includes working in the oil and gas industry for 20 years as an international audit manager.

The Community Partner Award is given to individuals in our community who partner with Lifeline staff to provide comprehensive and support services to Lifeline clients. Marcy was selected “because of her passion for individuals that struggle with chemical dependency and mental health disorders,” the nonprofit said. Marcy is a financial service specialist at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
