Papa Murphy's Appoints Ken Calwell to CEO

Papa Murphy's International, the Vancouver-based take 'n' bake pizza chain, recently announced company President Ken Calwell will assume the position of chief executive officer, effective December 31.

Current CEO John Barr will remain Papa Murphy's chairman of the board and will hand over day-to-day executive duties to Calwell, the company said.

“Under Ken's leadership, Papa Murphy's will continue on its successful growth path,” said Barr. “I am confident in his ability to build on our momentum and sustain our strong consumer rankings; I look forward to focusing my chairman's duties on guiding the brand's strategic growth.”

Calwell joined Papa Murphy's in June of this year, bringing with him more than 20 years of leadership experience at large quick service restaurant chains. This includes his most recent role at Wendy's International as chief marketing officer and EVP of research and development. Prior to joining Wendy's, Calwell was the chief marketing officer and EVP of product development at Domino's Pizza, where he was part of the leadership team that led the company through a successful IPO in 2004. 

KATHY DESCHNER

Innovative Services NW recently announced that Kathy Deschner has been hired as the vice president of development and marketing.

The Vancouver-based nonprofit said Deschner has more than 30 years of experience in management, fundraising, marketing and community organizing. Deschner previously served as director of development at Community Services Northwest. She has also worked as the director of development and communications at YWCA Clark County for nearly nineteen years.

Deschner, a lifelong resident of Clark County, said that serving her community has been the focus of her career and volunteer work.

“I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to serve the children, families and adults with disabilities and other special needs who receive services through the programs at Innovative Services NW,” said Deschner. “I am honored to work with Innovative’s gifted and dedicated leadership team, board and staff.”

Innovative Services NW is a Vancouver-based nonprofit that provides a variety of programs and services for the community. The organization’s mission is to provide quality services for all children, adults with disabilities/disadvantages, and their families.

DOUGLAS MUSGRAVE

Douglas S. Musgrave, an orthopedic surgeon at Rebound Orthopedics and Neurosurgery, recently received the 2011 Patients’ Choice Award by vitals.com – a distinction given to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by their patients.

This year marks Musgrave’s fourth consecutive year receiving the honor, according to the clinic.

Musgrave, one of the four hand surgeons that comprise Rebound’s Hand Center, is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), having earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He has conducted research involving bone regeneration, biomechanics and clinical results, authoring over 25 articles and chapters.

BRIAN KLEINE

Brian Kleine has won the Core Values Award from Ridgefield-based Corwin Beverage. Kleine is a sales driver for the company, and has been an employee since 2000.

According to Corwin Beverage, employees are chosen for the Core Values Award by their peers. The award honors employees who demonstrate the company’s core values each day.

Kleine has contributed to the local community as a volunteer coach with Pop Warner football and 8th grade All-Stars basketball.

DOUG McLAIN

Doug McLain of Currie and McLain Certified Public Accountants has become a new shareholder at the firm. 

McLain has worked at Currie and McLain as an accountant for the past eight years, specializing in the areas of tax, audit and homeowner association financial services.

He is currently serving as treasurer on the Board of Directors for Affordable Community Environments, a local nonprofit.
