Hough Foundation promotes Barbara Hammon as executive director

The Hough Foundation Board of Directors has promoted long-time Hough Family Service Center Director Barbara Hammon to the position of executive director, effective November 15, 2011.

“After serving the Hough Foundation for nine years, Barbara Hammon will step into a new role with strong community relationships and an exceptional understanding of the unique needs of the children and families in our downtown neighborhoods,” said Ted Gathe, chairman of the Hough Foundation Board of Directors. “An organization our size is most effective leveraging the commitment of community members who share a core belief in the importance of private and public partnerships to ensure the best possible future for our children.”

Hammon worked for the Vancouver School District as community outreach director for King Elementary School for nearly five years. The nonprofit said her experience working with the Vancouver School District has been invaluable in managing vital programs within Hough Elementary School as the volunteer director and then Family Service Center director for the last nine years.

Kate Sacamano, who has held the position of executive director since 2009, will continue serving the Hough Foundation as a consultant focused on the development of the new Hough Community Learning Center located adjacent to Hough Elementary School.

ROGER BENNETT

Roger Bennett

Retired Superior Court Judge Roger Bennett joined the Vancouver law firm Dimitrov & Senescu earlier this month, making it Dimitrov, Senescu & Bennett.

Bennett will focus on litigation with a specialized interest in bringing to justice those who prey upon the elderly, weak and helpless. He is the first retired Superior Court judge to join a local firm for purposes of practicing law and litigating, rather than only doing mediations and arbitrations, the firm said.

“He [Bennett] will provide an absolutely unique perspective to the local bar and we are extraordinarily lucky to have him,” said law partner Jessica Dimitrov in an email to the Vancouver Business Journal.

After having served in the 1980s as chief criminal deputy and deputy prosecuting attorney, Bennett was appointed to the Clark County Superior Court bench in 1990. In 2008, he was elected to the position of assistant presiding judge for the Clark County Superior Court.

Bennett retired from the bench on August 31 of this year.
