Robert Bates

WSUV repositions retired provost

Robert Bates rejoined the staff of Washington State University Vancouver as director of research and graduate education. Bates retired in July as WSUV’s provost, a position he held for six years. He worked at Virginia Tech for 30 years as a faculty member and administrator. Bates’ research on molecular biology of parvoviruses has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and American Cancer Society. He published 47 scientific book chapters and journal articles, plus 15 technical reports on virus topics. Bates holds a doctorate in virology from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in bacteriology and public health from WSU and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Lewis and Clark College.

 

Anne Garlinghouse, Joe Shulleeta, Gary Lovan

John L. Scott brokers earn green certification

Anne Garlinghouse, Joe Shulleeta and Gary Lovan of John L. Scott Real Estate’s Vancouver East office were certified as EcoBrokers by Colorado-based EcoBroker International. They make up John L. Scott’s Northwest Green Properties Group, Clark County’s first certified green real estate team, according to the company.

Garlinghouse founded NWGPG and is a member of the city of Vancouver’s Green Ribbon Task Force and the Sierra Club.

Shulleeta is a multi-million-dollar producer and top listing agent and sales associate. Prior to becoming a Realtor, he was an educator and school administrator in Oregon and California. Lovan worked as a freelance nature photographer for several years before becoming a Realtor. He has a background in corporate communications and high-tech industries.

 

Dennis Huston

Clark chooses interim athletic director

Dennis Huston was named interim athletic director for Clark College, succeeding Lisa Quednow-Bickler. Huston’s coaching career began at Clark and continued at the University of Washington, University of Wyoming and Stanford University. He retired from coaching in 1991 after serving as head basketball coach at Weber State University. Huston attended Clark in the 1960s and was an all-star member of the school’s basketball team and president of the Associated Students of Clark College. He was a board member for the Clark College Foundation and the Penguin Athletic Club, and received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2005. Huston holds a master’s degree from Western Washington University.

Delaney L. Miller

Law firm adds to litigation group

Delaney L. Miller joined the litigation practice group of Vancouver law firm Landerholm, Memovich, Lansverk and Whitesides PS. His litigation experience includes numerous cases in state and federal courts in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. He is licensed to practice law in Washington and Oregon.

 

Maili Morrison

Heathman chooses sales director

Maili Morrison was promoted to director of sales at the Heathman Lodge, and will oversee the Vancouver hotel and restaurant’s sales force. Morrison was most recently regional sales manager for the Heathman’s Portland-based owner, North Pacific Management. Morrison has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University and is incoming president of the Meeting Professionals International’s Oregon chapter, which includes Southwest Washington.

 

Cheryl Dehaan

BOCC promotes manager to vice president

Cheryl DeHaan was promoted to vice president of Bank of Clark County’s customer service division, supervising the Vancouver-based bank’s courier services team and headquarters’ teller staff. She has worked at BOCC for nearly seven years, most recently as customer service manager, and has worked more than 25 years in customer service and banking. She has volunteered for the Vancouver School District and the Fort Vancouver Fourth of July fireworks show.

 

Donna Martinson

New restaurant chooses general manager

Donna Martinson was named general manager of Vancouver’s new Olive Garden restaurant, which is set to open Oct. 13 on Mill Plain Boulevard. She previously was general manager of an Olive Garden restaurant in Portland. Martinson has worked for 31 years in the restaurant industry, including 23 years with Olive Garden, and has trained at the company’s Culinary Institute of Tuscany. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.

 

Dan Cox, Laura Forsyth, Carol Lackey

Chamber board elects three members

The Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce elected Carol Lackey, Dan Cox and Laura Forsyth to two-year terms on its board of directors.

Cox is vice president of commercial banking for Vancouver-based Riverview Community Bank and vice president of the Washougal Schools Foundation.

Forsyth is client relation manager for Vancouver-based Creative Computer Solutions Inc. and is active with the Evergreen School District Foundation, Camas Days, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Lackey was reelected to the board and is assistant vice president and financial center manager for Washington Mutual in Washougal and has served as chamber president and board member.
