CEO Fly-In takes off this weekend

In March, we told you about a plan orchestrated by Greater Portland Inc. and the folks behind the “Land Here, Live Here” campaign to fly a number of top CEOs here to spend the weekend – CEOs who have either expressed interest in the Portland-Vancouver metro area or have been here on previous recruitment.

Well, that all-important weekend has arrived. And the weather is cooperating!

As of this afternoon, about 15 executives are either here or on their way here, and will be following customized itineraries (hosted by a local CEO) that give them a feel for the region.

“This event has been made possible by an outpouring of support from area businesses including hotels, wineries, golf courses, restaurants, automobile dealerships, airports and airlines,” said Aplify Group’s Ron Arp, one of the event organizers. “A number of organizations in Clark County have stepped up in the past month to help Greater Portland with costs.”

Private dinners have been arranged for our visiting CEOs this evening, and a private reception will be held tomorrow at the Pearson Air Museum.

iUrban Teen Tech Summit gains key sponsors

Nike, Google, Intel, Multnomah County and Home Forward have all signed on to sponsor the inaugural iUrban Teen Tech Summit, which reaches out to underserved and underrepresented teens in Southwest Washington.

Kicking off October 1st at 9:00 a.m., the summit is an all-day, interactive technology event at the campus of Washington State University-Vancouver.

“This Summit will provide youth an amazing opportunity to connect their goals and aspirations to potential careers in technology,” said Monique Hayward, Intel Corporation senior marketing manager. “As we continue to focus as a nation on the need to improve education in science, technology, engineering, and math to maintain our competitiveness in the global marketplace, an event like the iUrban Teen Tech Summit is doing its part to put these topics and the next generation in the spotlight.”
 
More than 1,400 applicants attend New Seasons Market’s Vancouver job fair

More than 1,400 jobseekers attended a hiring event for New Season’s Market in northeast Vancouver on Thursday. Anyone who showed up at the job fair with a pre-completed profile received an interview, according to event organizers.

New Seasons hopes to hire roughly 100 people from the local area to work in its new Fisher’s Landing store, set to open sometime before Thanksgiving at the intersection of Southeast 164th Avenue and McGillivray Boulevard in Vancouver.

Hiring decisions will take place over the next few weeks.
