Throwing the first stone

Tom Dennis, principal partner at Vancouver-based Hopper Dennis Jellison engineering firm, throws the first brick into the firm’s now demolished building at 15th and Columbia streets. The office is still operating out of a newer building adjacent to it.

The firm, which is growing at about 20 percent a year, will start construction on a three-story, 16,700-square-foot building that will attach to the current space in early September.

The new building will be able to accommodate about 90 staff members. The firm currently employs about 55 people.
