Wine & events business to open this week downtown

Veraison Wine and Events, a 1,500-foot retail store and wine tasting bar, is opening this week at 212 Evergreen Blvd. in downtown Vancouver.

The brainchild of Tim and Courtney Barker, the Veraison store will feature a wine tasting bar and an ever-changing array of wines, foods and accessories from around the world. It will be open four days a week beginning on Wednesday, July 13.

“Our desire to create Veraison Wine and Events grew out of our personal passion for making wine more approachable for everyone living near or visiting Southwest Washington,” said Courtney Barker, whose family owns Corwin Beverage in Ridgefield. “We want to help people on their journey to learn more about the wonders of wine, and how to match it perfectly for every occasion, lifestyle and budget.”

In addition to the retail shop and wine bar, Veraison will also feature a monthly wine club, gift ideas and a variety of pouring and tasting events that can be scheduled for business, corporate, small group or family events by appointment.

According to Barker, the shop’s downtown location has a personal significance because it is located in the former Sparks home furnishings building, which was built by her grandfather James Craig, and was a source of employment for her mother, aunt and uncle.

“I have such special memories of the historic building, although it is like the building itself is experiencing another season of veraison,” said Barker in a press release.

The store’s entrance is just west of the new Black Rock Coffee Bar and northeast of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library.
