Camas Farmer’s Market set to open June 1

The Camas Farmer’s Market will kick off its 9th season on Wednesday, June 1 with fresh, locally-grown produce, food, lifestyle information and live music.

Opening day festivities at the market will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with Camas Mayor Scott Higgins and a health fair featuring more than a dozen local health organizations and a Red Cross blood drive.

“We’re going into the year feeling like between our community support, our board, our staff and our vendors and volunteers, we feel like a really cohesive team,” said Tina Eifert, the market’s program coordinator. “We’re really excited to be able to bring the community together.”

Heading into this season, Eifert said that she is particularly excited about the market’s Produce Pals program, which is entering its second year. The program gives children ages 3-11 the opportunity to participate in an educational activity at the market and receive a $2 token toward the purchase of their own fruits and vegetables.

“We gave out 2,073 tokens last year and we have excellent sponsorship for that program through the Camas-Washougal Community Chest, Whole Foods Market and Unitus Credit Union,” she said. “It’s an exciting program because it allows children to interact with farmers directly so they have a good understanding of the food system.”

Located in front of the Camas Library at 625 NE 4th Ave., the market will be open every Wednesday through September 28 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Providence Health & Services is the market’s 2016 premier sponsor.
