Regional port series to launch on Friday

“From the coastal ports to [ports] along the Columbia River, each one has to meet the needs of the industries and businesses unique to our region that employ so many of our neighbors and friends. Whether it’s securing funds for dredging and maintenance of our small ports along the coast or for the West Vancouver Freight Access Project at the Port of Vancouver, keeping our ports thriving continues to be one of my top priorities in Congress.” – Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas

There’s no question that Southwest Washington’s ports play a vital role in our local economy, supporting countless businesses and providing family-wage jobs. However, from the Port of Longview to the Port of Skamania and in-between, the story behind how the ports in our region operate isn’t always clear. And with a multitude of projects going on at any given time, it can be difficult to keep up.

With this challenge in mind, we are pleased to announce the launch of a new regional port series we’re calling, “Ports of Progress.” This multi-week series will give you an in-depth look at how individual ports in Southwest Washington are responding to unique challenges, as they strive to grow jobs and meet the economic needs of the communities they serve.

The series kicks off with an introduction in this Friday’s paper.
