Port of Kalama awarded federal grant to enhance security

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Port of Kalama a $394,200 grant under the FY-2015 Port Security Grant Program.

The grant will enable the port to provide expanded and improved security infrastructure at the North Port Marine Terminal like video surveillance cameras, increased lighting at facilities, installation of new fencing and automated gates.

“With the port’s recent business growth comes a higher volume of traffic which makes better area surveillance important for our tenants,” said Port of Kalama Commission President Randy Sweet. “The dedicated staff at the Port of Kalama is consistently seeking partnerships and grant opportunities to better serve our community and businesses. It is these kinds of grants and programs that enhance regional economic development overall.”

The port plans to match $131,400 of non-federal funds or 25 percent of the total approved project costs of $525,600.
