GVCC a finalist for community award, up to $15,000 grant

The Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) has been named a finalist for the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Des Moines Strong Communities Award.

The award honors the projects, the people and the programs that promote small business growth and retention in their communities.

FHLB Des Moines’ selection committee placed the GVCC as one of three finalists in the Urban Category. The next phase of the process is a public voting period, which will take place September 19-30 at www.fhlbforcommunity.com/voting. The winner will be awarded a $15,000 grant and the first runner-up will receive $3,000.

John McDonagh, GVCC CEO/president and associate publisher of the Vancouver Business Journal, said the grant would help support the chamber’s Small Business Resource Center and small business programming/workshops associated with Small Business Month (in May) and the GVCC’s “Get Out On Small Business Saturday” campaign in November.

“A special thank you to Kristy Weaver of Pacific Continental Bank and Nancy Olmsted of On Line Support Inc.,” said McDonagh. “They facilitated the application process for this grant and both have been outstanding members of the chamber and community partners.”
