WSDOT adopts new strategic plan

“We took a different approach to building our roadmap,” said Peterson in a press release. “What you won’t find are pages and pages of detail, bound up in a book that gathers dust on the shelf. What you’ll find instead, is the first step in creating an active plan that guides WSDOT on its journey forward.”

In support of the new strategy, the agency will develop implementation plans for each of the following six goals:

  • Strategic investments
  • Modal integration
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Organizational strength
  • Community engagement
  • Smart technology

For example, as part of strategic investments, WSDOT will begin work to identify criteria to define and prioritize operational and asset management strategies for corridors, based on input from both internal and external interests. Future preservation and capacity investments on strategic corridors will strive to offer the broadest benefits to our statewide system within existing revenue.

“This is a shift in the way we do business,” said Peterson. “It pushes us to leverage our limited resources by engaging with communities and our partners. This will help us ensure we have an efficient and integrated multimodal transportation system that uses all available capacity.”
