Sign company wins family business award

Security Signs, which designs and manufactures custom interior and exterior signs, took home the 2006 Excellence in Family Business Award from the Austin Family Business Program at Oregon State University in the medium business category. The company, owned by Tom, Carol and Kevin Keljo, is based in Portland and has a sales division in Camas and has been in operation since 1925. Security Signs was recognized for innovation, entrepreneurship, commitment and community involvement. It also won the award in 2002. Carol Keljo, who is president of the company, is chair of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

PDX printing, packaging co. coming to Vancouver

Portland-based Rose City Printing & Packaging Inc. is planning to open a second production facility in Vancouver by June and relocate its corporate headquarters here within the next two years.

The printed-carton-packaging company is leasing an 80,000-square-foot building at 900 S.E. Tech Center Drive. It will hire as many as 15 people to open the facility, but the workforce could grow to 80 within five years.

Co-owners Rick Safranski and Steve Lobis are Clark County residents and are planning to keep the Portland facility, which employs 120 people, up and running.

Rose City’s clients include Starbucks, Hewlett-Packard and Intel.

Imperial Homes takes two builder awards

Tigard, Ore.-based Primelan Properties selected Vancouver-based Imperial Homes as its 2006 Primelan Properties Builder of the Year. Land development company Primelan worked with Imperial in 2005 and 2006, when the two companies partnered on the 84-lot Westfield Park subdivision and the 32-lot Walnut Grove neighborhood in Vancouver.
