Gougér Cellars nabs award

Gougér Cellars Winery of Vancouver was awarded a silver medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition last month for its Blend 903, which includes four varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah.

International gold winning winemaker Gary Gouger has been making wine since 2002. After graduating from the University of Adelaide in Australia, he opened Gougér Cellars in September 2009 in downtown Vancouver.

"I am very proud to have been awarded such a prestigious award," Gouger said. "I wish to thank the community for embracing my passion and look forward to your continued support."

Visually-impaired and blind athletes receive grant

The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes announced last week that the nonprofit group had been awarded a $3,500 grant from the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing, as well as a $2,500 grant from the OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation.

Grant funding from the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing will partially fund the expansion of NWABA's Sports Outreach Program for Blind and Visually Impaired students across the state of Washington. The OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation grant will help to provide general operating support for expansion of programming.

"NWABA would like to thank the Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing and OCF Joseph E. Weston Public Foundation for their generous support of our programs," said Billy Henry, executive director.

NWABA's Sports Outreach Program will be fully launched in September.

Agave Denim, a designer and manufacturer of men's and women's denim sportswear, is opening its Ridgefield headquarters and warehouse to the public for its first year Anniversary Summer Warehouse Sale.

The upcoming warehouse sale will take place on July 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 40 to 80 percent off all men's and women's jeans, knits, sweaters and leather jackets.

In addition, there will be live music by guitarist Jay "Bird" Koder, a kid's activity corner and refreshments including coffee, smoothies and popcorn. Visitors are also encouraged to take part in Agave's "Denim Exchange" and bring in used, clean denim for an additional 10 percent discount to benefit local nonprofits Neighbors Helping Neighbors and The Arc of Clark County.

Owned by company designer and owner Jeff Shafer, Agave opened its 22,000-square-foot design studio and distribution center in Ridgefield in 2009.
