City of Vancouver joins ‘social network for neighborhoods’

The city of Vancouver has joined Nextdoor (www.Nextdoor.com) in an effort to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.

Through the website, which is described as a private social network for neighborhoods, the city is able to share important news and updates, services, public events and emergency notifications that are relevant to specific neighborhoods. Additionally, different city departments have the ability to post information to Nextdoor, including police officers.

Approximately 60 Vancouver neighborhoods are represented on Nextdoor, out of the 66 recognized neighborhood associations in Vancouver.

The social network is free for residents and the city. Each neighborhood site is private, accessible only to residents who verify that they live in the neighborhood.
