PeaceHealth & Providence to collaborate on new Vancouver health center

PeaceHealth and Providence Health & Services have announced plans to collaborate on a number of new initiatives including the construction of a new health and wellness center in Vancouver.

On Monday, the two health systems signed a letter of intent to jointly develop innovative new ways to provide health and wellness services in communities they serve – an effort influenced by the Affordable Care Act.

The health and wellness center – the first of those collaborative initiatives – will be located on property already owned by Providence near the Costco on Padden Parkway.

“That property also happens to be in a neighborhood that stands to benefit from additional access to wellness and healthcare services. So it’s really a win for the community to have it in that location,” said Tim Strickland, a spokesperson for PeaceHealth.

Although design and construction details for the new health center are slim at this point, Strickland said it will feature rehab, fitness, primary care and other services.

“This is not just another doctor’s office. It’s not just another fitness center,” said Providence Oregon Chief Executive Dave Underriner. “This is about creating new approaches that will help people get healthy and stay healthy. This is about improving wellness and restoring wholeness to people we care about.”

Strickland said the new facility will take about two years to be completed.

Beyond the health and wellness center in Vancouver, the two health systems said future initiatives are under consideration in various locations.

“The health and wellness center on Padden Parkway is just a first step,” Underriner said. “We’ll continue to explore other opportunities to work together. We’re excited about making a difference.”
