First job: At a time when nearly everyone took the morning paper, I was a paperboy in Iowa City, Iowa –that was over a half-a-century ago! I followed that up with an ice cream on a bicycle route through the downtown and considered it a successful day when I hadn’t eaten all the profits!

Fun fact: Growing up in a Big Ten college town (the University of Iowa is in Iowa City, which is also home to Iowa City City High, Iowa City City Park, the Iowa City City Library, the Iowa City City Hall, plus other “creatively” monikered locales) I had Hawkeye Blood in my veins. When my early career in television took me to Columbus, Ohio for a decade, I learned that for 51 weeks a year I could be a Buckeye like everyone else. But when my Hawkeyes came to town…

Favorite spot on a Saturday night: Wherever Deb says we’re going to be! (Obviously, I was born at night, but not last night!)

Favorite movie: Rod Steiger’s “The Pawn Broker.” I saw it in college while taking a course in the radio/TV/film department and it just stuck with me.

Music of choice: I’m into oldies, jazz and some classical, but I’m more of a news radio junkie.

Favorite place to eat: Portland City Grill (Sorry Vancouver)

Motto/Inspirational quote: “Lo yisa goy el goy cherev; lo yilmo du od mil cha mav; And every man ‘neath his vine and fig tree, shall live in peace and unafraid.”
