Up Close With Virginia Huang

Virginia Huang

Proudest professional moment: Every time I succeed in helping a patient feel better about themselves and boost their self confidence. Another one was being inducted into the Rotary Club of Greater Clark County. It is amazing how much the wonderful people in this club give back to their community and I am proud to be a member.

First job: Research assistant

Fun fact: I got to spend one year in Australia during my residency. I loved working with the old diggers (the Aussie term for veteran) at the repatriation hospital. It was during this year that I decided to become a plastic surgeon. I love the fact that plastic surgery is one of the only specialties where the goal is restoration of form and function.

Favorite spot on a Saturday night: I am going to change this question to favorite thing to do, which is travel around the world, getting up close and personal with wildlife. My favorite encounters so far have been backpacking with grizzly bears in Alaska, Kayaking with beluga whales in Canada, petting a panda in China and snorkeling with humpback whales in the Dominican Republic. On my bucket list is trekking to see the mountain gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda.

Favorite movie: “Forest Gump”

Music of choice: Pentatonix, Coldplay

Favorite place to eat: Breakfast at Tin Shed on Alberta Street in Portland.

Motto/Inspirational quote: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln
