Up Close With Esther Cho Liu

Current job: Architect (Associate Principal) at LSW Architects

Proudest professional moment: I think that each time a building (school, library, mixed-use, office, etc.) is constructed after many hours of long hard work, especially if it’s done in our community, it’s hard not to be proud.

First job: I am ashamed to say that I only lasted two weeks at my first job working at McDonald’s at the age of 16, but after that, I worked at BASF (desk job) every summer and winter break during high school and college. I applaud anyone who works in the fast food industry as I found out how hard that was at an early age.

Fun fact: My family and everyone around me expected me to be a doctor, but I pursued my dream to be an architect.

Favorite spot on a Saturday night: My husband and I usually spend Saturday nights with our church youth group – usually eating great food and connecting with our young people.

Favorite movie: “The Italian Job,” “A Room with a View.”

Music of choice: U2, Sting, Coldplay, Hillsong.

Favorite place to eat: I absolutely love good food. In Vancouver: La Bottega, Nonavo; in Portland: Tasty’n Sons, Verdigris, Oba.

Motto/inspirational quote: “I can be changed by what happens to me but I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou
