AVERY CULLINAN

Westby Associates Inc., a consulting firm based in Vancouver, has hired Avery Cullinan to serve as a project manager.

Cullinan is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where she received her bachelor of science degree in business enterprise and management. After graduation, she worked for Washington D.C.-based Island Press, a nonprofit environmental publisher.

In a press release, Westby Associates said Cullinan brings a strong organizational management and project coordination experience and skill set to the firm.

Vancouver-based Hall Mediation Services recently announced the addition of Peter Barbara to its staff.

Barbara fills the role of teen mediator and will partner with an adult mediator to provide communication training and mediation services for parents and teenagers.

“It is an exciting opportunity to help bridge the communication gap that too often exists between adults and teens,” said Barbara, who described his role as that of a ‘translator.’ “Parents and other adults and teenagers can feel as though they are either not heard or not understood. We will provide tools and training to push past the communication blockages and develop a positive dialogue, breaking the cycle of conflict and finding agreements that lead to a more harmonious family dynamic.”

In his new role, Barbara will also co-facilitate interactive communication classes for parents and teens.

Barbara, 17, is currently enrolled in the Clark College Running Start program as a high school junior. He is the youngest to complete mediation training through Clark County Mediation Services where he also worked as a summer intern.

PeaceHealth Medical Group Plastic Surgery, located in Vancouver, recently announced the addition of microvascular surgeon Dr. Manish Champaneria to its team. Champaneria is one of only two microvascular surgeons practicing in the entire Pacific Northwest.

For microvascular procedures, Champaneria uses specialized instruments that allow him to work on blood vessels and lymphatic channels as small as .8mm. He is also skilled in a highly specialized form of breast reconstruction called DIEP Flap.

Riverview community Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Ron Wysaske has been re-elected as a director of the Community Bankers of Washington (CBW) Board of Directors.

Wysaske joined Riverview in 1976 and has served as president and COO since 2004.He holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Washington State University, and is active in numerous professional, educational and civic organizations.

As the only trade association in Washington that advocates exclusively for independent community banks, CBW focuses on banking issues from a community banker’s perspective. The organization was founded in 1989.

Duane Fladland has been named director of the Washington State Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network.

Fladland has more than 20 years of experience with the SBDC, and has served as interim state director since April.

Hosted by Washington State University since its inception in 1981, the Washington SBDC is a network of 26 certified business advisors and two international trade experts who provide no-cost advising to small business owners in communities statewide, including Clark County.

“Washington is fortunate to have one of the strongest SBDC networks in the country,” Fladland said. “Not only do the advisors have experience and expertise in diverse areas, but they are constantly reaching out to colleagues within the network and in the broader business community to ensure that their clients have the information they need to move forward with confidence.”

Prior to joining the Washington SBDC, Fladland had been associate state director for the New Mexico SBDC for seven years.

SANDRA MATHEWSON, TRACY RUDE, REMY EUSSEN & BRYCE HACKETT

The Clark County Board of Health has appointed four community members to serve three-year terms on the volunteer Public Health Advisory Council.

Sandra Mathewson, who has been a board member for 10 years, was reappointed to her seat representing the educational community. A Vancouver resident, Mathewson is director of prevention and youth services at Education Services District 112.

New appointees are Tracy Rude of Vancouver, a licensed practical nurse who works at the Clark County Skills Center teaching applied medical services and nursing assistant classes; Dr. Remy Eussen, a pediatric dentist practicing in Vancouver; and Bryce Hackett, a senior at Columbia River High School and an Honor Society member.

The council is a link between the community, Board of Health and Clark County Public Health. It provides advice on public health policies, decision making and practices.
