The statement continued:

“Rather than shift responsibility to our children’s generation to fix the problem, we will continue to work on finding a solution which will require compromise and a willingness to work together.

We thank our legislators from the 49th Legislative District for their courage and steadfast commitment to our community. We thank our Governor for his tireless efforts to find a compromise in Olympia. We have a strong Governor in Jay Inslee. We thank [Oregon] Governor John Kitzhaber and the Oregon Legislature for its willingness to work with Washington and we regret our state Senate was unwilling to work with you. Finally and always, we thank U.S. Senator Patty Murray for her tenacity in supporting this project and providing strong leadership at the federal level.

What next? It’s time, for the sake of this community’s future, to put down the swords. The battle is over. We are neighbors and friends. We have many more projects that will require our attention. It is in our best interest and it is our responsibility to move forward together.”
